ALICIA ARGUELLES brings years of experience as an artist into works of sacred arts and iconography. From museum classes at the age of six, private studio studies with professional artists, attending the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C., and other art institutions, she was accepted into the Archives on Women Artists in the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), Washington, D.C., in 1997. She is a past member of the Portrait Society of America, and in recent years began study of Iconography in workshops in Bon Secour, AL, with Phillip Zimmerman, PA; The Prosopon School of Iconography at the College of Santa Fe, and the Pecos School of Iconography with Peter Pearson, Benedictine Monastery, Pecos, NM.

ICONS, also known as "Windows Into Heaven", express the Word of God.  All are hand written following the ancient process and traditional canons of Iconography. Icon Panels are birch, gessoed and braced for support, with traditional raised borders. These sacred images are used in prayer and divine contemplation. The writing of an Icon is prayerful and contemplative and may take several months to complete. Completion time will also vary with respect to size and complexity of image.

DEVOTIONAL PAINTINGS are painted on canvas or gessoed wood panels, and are generally completed in a shorter time period. Gold Leaf and frames can be included if desired as an additional option.

SIZES AND IMAGES AVAILABLE

ICON standard sizes begin at 9 1/2 in. by 12 1/2 in. through 13 in. by 17 in., and larger. Extra large and custom commissions available on request.

DEVOTIONAL PAINTING standard sizes begin at 8 in. by 10 in. and larger. Large and custom sizes available on request.

IMAGES: Christ, Mother of God, Holy Family, Angels, Saints, Prophets, and Feast Days.
